Depardieu, from doctor Zhivago to Gollum

“Vladimir Putin has signed a decree granting Russian citizenship to Gerard Depardieu,” French actor Gerard Depardieu has obtained Russian citizenship, according to a brief statement posted on the Kremlin website. Mr Depardieu recently announced he would give up his French passport after the government criticised his decision to move abroad to avoid higher taxes.

And the man really moved abroad all the way from the taxes tundra of France to the ice tundra of Putin! Just imagine the transformation of the miserable to Gollum counting coins and whispering …my precious!!!

Snipes in jail for three years

Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes has received a three-year prison sentence for tax offenses.

A federal judge handed down the maximum term requested by prosecutors – a year for each of Snipes’s convictions of willfully failing to file a tax return. Snipes’s lawyers had called for leniency, arguing that the offenses were misdemeanors and that the star was of good character.

But prosecutors said an example should be set because of Snipes’s fame. In February, Snipes was found guilty of deliberately failing to file tax returns for 1999, 2000 and 2001, but was cleared of more serious fraud and conspiracy charges.

The first vampire in prison!!! Sentenced for drinking tax!!!

Clintons’ earnings exceed $100m

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton and her husband, ex-President Bill Clinton, have revealed they earned more than $100m (£50m) in eight years.

Since 2000, the former first couple took in nearly $110m, with more than $20m made in 2007, and gave more than $10m to charity in the same period. Almost half of the income was made from the former president’s speeches.

Sen. Clinton had been under pressure to release her returns since rival Barack Obama disclosed his for 2000-2006. Both Sen. Obama and John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, have said they will reveal their 2007 returns later this month.

Both Democratic candidates are keen to show they have nothing to hide from voters as they fight for their party’s nomination, the BBC’s Jack Izzard reports from Washington. Many Americans will pore over these figures, which show just how much the Clintons are worth, he adds.

Now I might sound stupid but is it possible with $100m to have tax …returns?

Obama presses Clinton

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has published seven years of tax returns on his website and urged his rival, Hillary Clinton, to do the same.

Mr. Obama’s spokesman said he hoped the release of tax returns would encourage her to let people “see her finances” before the key primary in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Clinton said she hoped to release her tax returns “within the next week”. Earlier, Mrs. Clinton was forced to explain how she came to misrepresent a visit she made to Bosnia in the 1990s.

She said last week that she and her daughter, Chelsea, “ran with our heads down” to avoid sniper fire when she arrived at Tuzla airport in 1996. But television footage broadcast on Monday showed her smiling as they are greeted by a Bosnian government welcoming committee.

Mr. Obama’s aides said the admission was proof that Mrs. Clinton had overstated her foreign policy experience.

The closer we get to the electoral day the worst the fight turns, actually it has already turn into a dirty war and I’m not sure if that’s working for them and not for McCain who continues clean and away from all these!
