Tsvangirai Seeks Refuge in Dutch Embassy

Zimbabwe’s opposition presidential candidate Morgan Tsvangirai was taking refuge at the Dutch Embassy in Harare this Monday. Tsvangirai had affirmed on Sunday that a “free and fair election was impossible”.

Dutch authorities in the Netherlands announced that Tsvangirai had been asked by members of his own party, the MDC, if the Dutch Embassy could provide him with protection and security by now. “We, of course, gave him the opportunity to hide” the Dutch spokesman said.

The MDC denounced a raid of the police on its offices during which 60 people were arrested, including women and children, and taken to be “questioned”. “The government will act on anyone, anywhere who is thought to be contravening the laws of the country,” a spokesman of Mugabe declared, in order to justify such action, adding that the people taken will be questioned by the police on their claims of being… victims of political violence!!

Goodness… any bigger contradiction? I don’t know why, but they don’t seem the right people to “question” them on THAT!!!

Democracy returns to Zimbabwe

Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has said he will win Zimbabwe‘s 27 June run-off presidential poll, as he returned to Harare after weeks abroad.

The Movement for Democratic Change leader accused the ruling Zanu-PF party of seeking to “decimate” opposition structures ahead of the vote. His first engagement was to visit supporters hurt in political violence.

Mr. Tsvangirai’s return was delayed amid an alleged army plot to kill him, which the ruling party said was “fantasy”. Polls on 29 March saw the country’s veteran leader, Robert Mugabe; lose his parliamentary majority for the first time in two decades in power.

Its only days remaining for Mugabe to follow the road that leads to his …cell!!!

A plot to kill in Zimbabwe

Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has postponed a return to Zimbabwe because of concerns about a plot to kill him.

“We have received information from a credible source concerning a planned assassination attempt,” his spokesman George Sibotshiwe said.

Mr Tsvangirai was set to return to campaign for a run-off presidential election against Robert Mugabe. On Friday, the US ambassador warned post-election violence had made a fair second round run-off vote impossible.

Mugabe will do everything to survive, don’t give him the chance!

Zimbabwe’s second round

Zimbabwe‘s opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has said he will contest a presidential run-off, despite fears of widespread poll violence.

Speaking in South Africa, he said people would feel “betrayed” if he did not run, and vowed to return shortly. Mr Tsvangirai called for an end to violence, as well as full access by international monitors and media.

Official first-round results put him ahead of President Robert Mugabe, but not by enough votes to win outright. Mr Tsvangirai had earlier insisted he had secured more than 50% of the vote, and that there was therefore no need for a second round.

“I am ready, and the people are ready for the final round,” the opposition leader went on to demand “unfettered access of all international observers” and journalists covering the vote.

Morgan is ready for the second round and this is fine, the question is if Mugabe is ready to go to prison and to be followed by the international court for crimes against humanity!
